I will always have wonderful memories of my first ski trip, which was to Fernie. The first thing that comes to mind is fresh snow. It was snowing while we were coming down the slopes! I first thought it would not be the wisest move to go skiing when I saw it was falling down, as I am a beginner. Quite the opposite; it was an absolute delight!
The town, which is ten minutes from the ski area, has great facilities and plenty of boutique type shops, bars and restaurants.
So you can ski all day on fabulous snow and go out in the evening. Perfect holiday!

Hi Ruth
Good to hear you had a great time in Fernie. We are planning a family holiday in Canada next year and have looked at Fernie, but have read it can de difficult to find your way around due to poor piste maps and signage. Did you have any problems?
Cheers Paul
Hi Paul
The first time we went skiing it was with a instructor so we just followed him. Then two of us in the group went by ourselves in the afternoon and yes we did stop at some point and wonder which piste was ours… We decided to guess and it turned to be the right one (it was snowing as well so it didn’t help). But I guess there is only one way and it’s down, right…
We could have asked people around as well as there is always somebody. And every so often you see a ski instructor so you can ask them.
But saying that, as a company, we have never heard from any of our clients saying this has been issue and affected their holiday.
Hope this helps - Ruth
I had heard this comment and there is some truth in it. But we did not have any problems.
Basically, keep going and you always seem to come back to a lift. They tend to only have signs at key junctions.A lot of runs split then rejoin. This has also been our experience in two other North American resorts.
We are reasonable intermediates and had great fun exploring Fernie -Jan 09
